FAQ - General Questions

 

Can I still use ScalIT if my company already has a domain and a website?

Yes, you can.  If you already own your own corporate domain (i.e. yourcompany.com or yourcompany.net), you can still use ScalIT.  You will just have to modify your domain's MX records to point to the appropriate ScalIT mail server and web server.  ScalIT will provide you with those settings.  It is just that simple. 

If you do not already have a corporate domain, ScalIT will help you acquire one, configure it, and manage it.  The cost of obtaining a domain and keeping it renewed is included in the many services ScalIT provides.

Can I use my ScalIT email account to conduct mass email campaigns?

Federal laws are very strict when it comes to conducting mass email campaigns. Standard ScalIT email accounts are not to be used for mass email marketing campaigns. If you would like to conduct mass mailings or marketing campaigns, please contact us to make arrangements to set up an account to enable mass mailings or marketing campaigns that are acceptable under the Federal CAN-SPAM Act.

Can I use ScalIT with other devices, such as my iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc.?

Yes. ScalIT email and calendaring is designed to work with most mobile devices and applications using standard protocols. We strongly recommend using IMAP for email, as this allows multiple clients (i.e. your computer and your phone) to always remain in sync with each other.  CalDAV allows and calendaring to be synced to your mobile device in addition to your email, while CardDAV does the same for contacts. IMAP only keeps your email in sync. Also, if your mobile device has a web browser, ScalIT has provided a web interface optimized for the smaller screens of mobile devices in order to access your ScalIT email, contacts, and calendar. Be sure to select the "Mobile" option from your web email login screen when accessing your email from your mobile device.

Can you suggest any free software that works well with ScalIT?

ScalIT web applications are designed to work with most popular standards and protocols.  This means that it should work equally well with OpenOffice.org as it does with Microsoft Office, with a Mac as well as with Windows, etc.  Here are some popular and robust open source applications that are available for free download and usage:

ScalIT web applications also work well on there own, as web applications, and with popular commercial applications, such as Microsoft Office, Apple Mail, iCal, and iChat, and many others.

Do I need Microsoft Office in order to use ScalIT?

No, you do not need Microsoft Office in order to use ScalIT. For your email, calendaring, and contacts, you may use ScalIT with its provided web interface, or you may choose to use it with Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mac Mail, etc. ScalIT's file and document management software works with its own web interface to create company intranet sites and pages. It is also designed to work with imported documents, spreadsheets, images, etc. It recognizes documents made in Microsoft Office formats (i.e. .doc, .xls, .ppt, etc.), as well as those made conforming to the Open Document Format (supported by OpenOffice.org, newer versions of Microsoft Office, Star Office, and many other applications). The ScalIT file and document management system also recognizes .pdf files, most pictures files, and many other file types. ScalIT's Contact Management applications is fully web based, but also works with documents made in other applications. ScalIT Instant Messenger works with the provided web-based application, or with other popular chatting applications, such as iChat or Pidgin.
